Rogue Volunteers
Do you want to join the Rogue Movement?
Here's how!
.....Rogue Cthulhu is looking for volunteers to perform all kinds of tasks. Here are just some of the ways you can make a difference.
- GAME MASTER: One of the most important jobs you can fill, and one that we need the most of, is as a Game Master at the convention. This is where the action is. This is where the rubber meets the road. This is where it all gets put on the line and the winners are seperated from the RPGA. A good Game Master (also known as a "Keeper" in Call of Cthulhu speak) can make even the most thinnly developed, and hastilly thrown together piece of schlock scenario, sing like a fine violin. A bad GM can turn a masterpiece of well researched, finely detailed gaming genius into an agonizing four hour test of intestinal fortitude. Believe me. I've seen it go both ways. This is a very special job that requires special talents and a serious committment, but it is by far one of the most rewarding experiences you could have helping Rogue Cthulhu.
A GM will need to run one or more event slots. Each is aprox. four hours long, though some scenarios may vary in length. This can also be combined with other types of service. The scenario you run can be one of your own creation (which will have to go through the adventure submission process), or one from our archive of scenarios. Around the middle of December, we will begin contacting our GMs to begin finding out who will be running which scenarios and how many slots they will be willing to run. At that time, we will need solid committments from our GMs so that we can plan our event schedule. If you will be running someone else's scenario, we will send you a copy of the adventure script at least a month in advance of the show so that you can become familliar with it and even test it out with your friends. Those who do enough hours of service at the con. to qualify can earn free admission and other benefits!1(details below).
- EVENT AUTHOR: If GMing isn't your thing (or even if it is), or you can't make it to the convention, you could submit an adventure for us to run. Please click here for more details about Adventure Submission.
- ADMIN. VOLUNTEER: Conventions require a lot of manpower, both for running our show, and for running the con in general. Since most of our people at the show are busy running games, we often times don't have time to take care of the little things that need to get done, like picking up food, dropping off paperwork, taking photographs, hunting down convention personel and other little errands.
- ARTIST: One of the things that sets Rogue Cthulhu apart from other gaming groups, is our dedication to building atmosphere. From the very beginning we decorated the walls with hand painted Mythos art posters that were donated by artists for our cause. Now we do a considerable amount more. But to do any decorating, we need artists who are willing to let us showcase their work. We need fresh new posters and room decorations. We need art to expand and improve our web site. We also need art we can use to make prizes for our Prize Table and, if we can arrange it, to sell for cash to help fund our efforts. We need dark ambient music for our background score. We need Dance music for Club Carcosa. We need hand crafted props and chachkies for the Prize Table. We need art that we can make into t-shirts and other products for fund raising. We need art for possible future publishing projects. There are lots of things we can use good Mythos art for. If you are an artist and have something that you want to donate or showcase through Rogue Cthulhu, drop us an e-mail and we can make arrangements that will be mutually beneficial.
- NETWORKING: The single most important element to Rogue's success, more than good scenarios, more than good game masters, more than helpers, is PLAYERS. Without them, we may as well be sitting at home in our basements drinking Mountain Dew and eating Cheetos. We can only ever be as big as our fan base lets us be, so we need all the help we can get to tell people about our games, our cause, and the great time they can have playing with us at the convention. We have to take the word to the streets; Rogue Cthulhu is the hottest game in town! And if you're reading this, then you have the skills needed to contribute. No matter where you're located, no matter how busy your schedule, no matter if you're going to the convention or not, YOU can serve a vital role in a Rogue Cthulhu propaganda machine that will not stop until EVERY SINGLE GAMER ON EARTH KNOWS WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE STAND FOR! Link to Rogue on your web site. Email the Rogue Cthulhu home page to your friends. Talk about Rogue in chat rooms. Post about us on message boards and forums. Publish a review of your Rogue Cthulhu experience. Mention us in your weblog or gaming news article. Put up a recruiting poster at your local gaming store. The possibilities for networking are limited only by your imagination. And of course, COME AND PLAY IN OUR GAMES!!!
- MOO-LA: Scratch, dough, bread, bone-cheese, no matter how you say it, money makes the world go round. When we came out with the Really Big Show in 2002, the production itself cost us over $1000. That doesn't include travel costs, food or lodging. Every year since then, we have added to the production, and the expence. Now that our yearly expences are beyond what the few individuals who shoulder them can bare alone, we have been working to find ways to increase Rogue Cthulhu's income potential, so that we can continue to bring you bigger and better productions to make your gaming experience all that it can be. One of they ways that can happen is through your direct donations.
Another way for you to help support Rogue Cthulhu financially is by buying Rogue Cthulhu Merchandise. We have a great selection of t-shirts and other products in our CafePress Store, a full line of Call of Cthulhu and Lovecraft related books available through Amazon.com, and we've taken selected items from our Prize Table and put them up for sale.2 You can find some items in our Web Store, and sometimes you can find special deals on our eBay Page.
What Rogue Cthulhu can do for you!
..... So great fun, gaming and commradery isn't enough for you, eh? We'll how about this.
FREE ADMISSION TO THE CON!!
FREE HOTEL ROOM !!
SPECIAL CLUB BENEFITS !! 1
That's right, depending on how much you do, you could earn yourself a Free Four Day Pass, Free Hotel Accomodations (shared) and other Great Benefits. All hours that you GM for us at the con, and hours that you volunteer for GAMA in the name of Rogue Cthulhu, all count towards the requirements for these benefits. Any hours you work independantly at the con can also count towards this requirement1.
How it works -
- Free Admission: Origins attendees who GM or Volunteer (admin) a total of 16 hours or more, are reimbursed their admission fee by GAMA at the show. That's just 4 adventures over the whole weekend! That's just one game per day! If you can GM one adventure for us per day YOU GET IN FREE. But wait, there's more! Can't quite swing 16 hours? All Rogue Cthulhu members GET IN FOR HALF PRICE EVEN IF THEY DO NOTHING! GAMA provides 50% off 4-day admission for all pre-registered Club members even if they don't log any GM or Volunteer hours. Of course, nothing comes for free. To get this discount, you have to be registered with GAMA as a Rogue Cthulhu member, and to do that, you will have to make some sort of arrangement with us as to what you are able to contribute.1
- Free Hotel: Origins attendees who GM or Volunteer (GAMA admin) a total of 32 hours or more, can get 1/4 of a hotel room paid for by GAMA. Because GAMA affords Rogue Cthulhu a free hotel room based on our aggregated service hours, we can assign it to whoever we want! So if you are ready to make a substantial committment to Rogue, but can't afford a hotel room at Origins, talk to us and perhaps we can work something out. Arrangements for use of the RC hotel room is handled on an individual basis, arrangements must be made in advance and space is limited, so get on board NOW.1
- Special Origins Benefits: Registered Club members also get; a 20% Discount on Origins Merchandise, an Express Registration Line to pick up your badge without waiting like the rest of the unwashed masses, an "Origins Affiliated Club Member" ribbon to hang from your badge and the name of the club on your badge, and a Special Clubs-Only Reception with the Gaming Guests of Honor.1 And that's just what you get from GAMA for being a Rogue Cthulhu member! Want us to sweeten the pot even more? Ok,...
- Special Rogue Benefits: Want to see your name in lights? How about pixels? Authors who contribute scenarios that we run at the convention get listed in our Authors section of the Rogue Cthulhu web page, and can have a brief biography listed so you can tell all the world who you are. Want to see all the behind the scenes stuff that makes Rogue Cthulhu happen? Want to have a voice in those discussions? Volunteers who prove themselves worthy are invited to join the Rogue Insider's email group, so that they can stay in touch will all their new RC friends and help to shape the direction of the club. Rogue Insiders also get unlimited access to our entire archive of scenarios for their reading and gaming pleasure3, as well as access to other files that memebrs have uploaded to the archives. Had your eye on a juicy piece of swag from the Prize Table? But too busy running games to earn points by playing them? Well, we're all friends here. I'm sure we can make some sort of trade or arrangement in consideration for all your hard work.
You can find more indepth information about the Benefits and Requirements of the Origins Clubs and Orgs Program at the Origins Home Page or on the Origins Clubs and Groups Webring Homepage. It can get a little complicated, so if you have any questions about how all this stuff applies to you, and your volunteering with Rogue Cthulhu, drop us an e-mail and we'll help you sort it out.
What are you waiting for? Email us and say, SIGN ME UP TO HELP ROGUE CTHULHU

The fine print.
..... OK, so there are some hoops to go through. We don't just throw laurels at the feet of any braindead lump who manages to mash his meat hooks into the keyboard and by some miracle, ends up with our web site on his screen. For the past 5 years we have been fielding inquiries from people over the internet who say they want to volunteer and, sad to say, about 9 out of 10 are complete flakes. Most never make it past the first email. Some string us along until we give them access to our adventure scripts, and then vanish. And a few spank around until a few weeks before the con and THEN hit the eject button. Understandably, we're very disappointed and frustrated with internet recruiting. Perhaps we havn't been making ourselves clear. WE ARE LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WHO WILL ACTUALLY PUT SOME EFFORT INTO THIS PROJECT. Preferably, a lot of effort, but hey, we'll take what ever you've got.
Try to understand, that we have to make out our schedule in December for the following summer. We need to know by the end of the year, what adventures we have to run, how many GMs we have to run them, and how many events we can committ to for the show that is still 7 months away. And more than that, we have to know what you bring to the table. Quality control is a big issue with us. We'de much rather meet you in person and get to know you, maybe even get a chance to see your Game Mastering skills in action before we make committments that will rely on you. We also want to feel sure that you aren't going to let this committment fall to the back of that junk-drawer of a mind of yours, and then sometime around the end of March, decide to finally answer our emails and tell us that you have to work that weekend and aren't going to make it to the con. We're sorry if this sounds like we're being full of ourselves, but we are looking for serious applicants only. We just don't have the patience to deal with non-committal, non-producing, band-wagoners anymore.
..... That being said; If you would like to volunteer to help Rogue Cthulhu in any capacity (GM or otherwise), drop us a line and tell us that you are interested, and what you think you could do to help out. We will get back with you and give you more specific information on how to help. If you want to GM an event, let us know how many events you can commit to, and if you have any preference on what days and/or times you would like to run them. We will be posting more information about what event titles are available, and what slots are open, as we get the events finalized. We do need to know as far in advance as possible if you want to take advantage of the Free Admission, so we can make sure the events you run are registered with the convention organizer. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask us.
