Your friend Tim has always had an obsessive personality. When he got interested in model airplanes as a kid, he had to have all the latest gear, had to join all the modelers’ clubs, had to read all the aviators’ magazines.
He surrounded himself with new friends of similar interest and shunned all other distractions, save for school and family. For six months, he ate, slept and breathed model airplanes. Then it was the same for collecting baseball cards, then comic books. After that, league bowling. After that, amateur astronomy. God only knows what new obsession has got Tim blowing off his friends and missing classes now.
Tim is definitely on to some new hobby or other. He hasn’t mentioned anything about it to you, which is kind of unusual, but you haven’t seen much of him for the past month or two, and he’s getting worse and worse about returning your calls. That’s always a sure sign that some new interest has taken hold of his brain and he has jumped head first into it. Whatever it is, he’s keeping it to himself this time. It must be something he thinks you wouldn’t approve of. He’ll be back around whenever the novelty of it wares off, as it always does. No need to worry about Tim. He’s a smart guy. You just hope he doesn’t get into anything over his head, like he did with that stock trading thing back in his sophomore year. The one that started an SEC investigation and nearly forced him to sell his beloved Porshe and drop out of school. But he’s matured a lot since then. He’d never let himself get jammed up like that now. Unless there’s a girl involved. Then all bets are off. |
